Medical hypnosis (or hypnotherapy) is a very delicate, yet extremely powerful tool in the art of healing.  It works differently in everyone, ranging from a little help to a complete cure. Problems, which can be helped include -

What is hypnosis?

When you go into Hypnosis, you are simply in a state of deep tranquillity of mind and total relaxation of body, accepting suggestions that are beneficial to you, allowing them to sink into your subconscious mind for your benefit.

The simplest way to imagine hypnosis is that it is like the state of mind you are in when you have been driving on ‘autopilot’.  We have all driven along the road, and suddenly realised that we have passed a landmark or a turn-off, without noticing it.  In that time, we haven't driven off the road or hit a pedestrian. In fact, we've driven better than ever - we're in complete control!

Hypnosis is like this, as YOU are in control, to accept the advice you want, to help YOU.

Medical hypnotherapy does not require you to go into deep hypnosis, although many people do. All you have to do is just relax and let yourself go.  All the hypnosis you receive is given to help you for your problem and your general good health.  Nothing is said, while in a hypnotic trance, to alter how you feel, contrary to your own ideas.  It's all for your benefit.

Most people are a little apprehensive when going into hypnosis from the first time.  I find that usually most people begin to enjoy the feeling of deep relaxation, when only a few minutes into hypnosis. They often come out of the hypnotic session feeling on top of world.

Because everyone is different, it is difficult to say how many treatments, you may need with hypnotherapy - often, a once-off treatment is all that is required. However, it is usual to have three treatments over the space of a month - and possibly ongoing hypnotherapy, to keep you feeling better.

At the first visit, I usually don't induce a hypnotic state, but talk with you about what you require from the hypnotherapy, and let you know, in more detail what to expect, while in hypnotherapy. This first consultation will often take up to an hour.  The hypnotherapy sessions may take anything from thirty minutes to an hour, depending on what is required in treatment, and what the response is from the patient.

After having hypnosis, sometimes you can feel as if you've just woken up from a sleep, even though you've never actually been to sleep!  Usually, within a few moments, you feel completely back to normal, even feeling on a ‘high’.

Some people, affected with stress or emotional problems, find that they can be helped just through having a chat. They follow up with sessions where we discuss problems and give some helpful advice and they do not require hypnosis.

When Hypnotherapy is undertaken for a medical condition, it attracts a Medicare rebate, when done through a medical practitioner.
