School-aged children and teenagers can be given help and support at this clinic, through positive counselling, hypnotherapy and relaxation, and advice on weight control.
Being at school these days, is so different to being a student 50 years ago (in those days you didn't need to complete Year 12, there was almost 100% employment, and you could step into a job with no qualifications at all, and work your way up to Managing Director).
Nowadays, there is pressure to perform, to have an O.P. that's as low as possible, to keep up with the other kids, through having the latest in technology, the latest fashion, and just to be one of the group, and it starts early. Often, you wonder if the freedom that you experience in childhood - where you trust everyone, you're carefree, you have no responsibilities, etc - is taken away too early, and the responsibilities of adulthood imposed on you.
So, these days, there is stress (seemingly in abundance) in many of our school children. Knowing how to deal with it and cope with it, is not often present - your system is not programmed to handle this at so young an age.
Help can be given through simple advice, assisting in recognising the problems and dealing with problems through strategies given to help avoid problems in the future. Teaching a school- aged person to relax can often help them cope. Hypnotherapy may quickly give results in de - stressing, improving confidence and boosting self-control. It can also be used to enhance study and concentration and to improve sporting ability.
School-aged children and young adults tend to be more susceptible to the benefits of hypnotherapy than older people. Unfortunately, many people are wary of hypnosis and its benefits, but even in the deepest hypnotherapy, you are always in control and aware of what is happening.
Many school-aged children are now tubbier than ever before, even though they are eating low-fat foods of every sort. There is an increased incidence of type 2 diabetes, even in teens and young adults. Therefore, being the right weight is not just for appearance, fitting into better clothes, seeing yourself in the mirror etc, but also to prevent major medical problems happening in the future. By educating young people about potential disease threats, and by advising on a low stress diet, they can achieve a better body shape and weight, and also better health.
Most of the time, children will pay little attention to what their parents tell them to do. It is often the advice of a professional person, who is not part of the family or close to them, to whom they will listen. For any child or young adult to come in and talk with me about weight management or stress or anxiety etc, it must be THEY who want help, and not their parents, who tell them that they must come in. In other words, if the child or young adult is aware of the problem, and would like to be helped, they can receive that help.Read more about Mind and Body Medicine -
